Child support is money paid by one parent to the other parent in order to assist in the financial necessities of the child when the parties no longer live together.

The parent that the child lives with most of the time is known as “the custodial parent” while the other parent is known as “the non-custodial parent.”   Most of the time, the non-custodial parent pays child support to the custodial parent.

To obtain child support, a written complaint specifying what you are seeking must be filed in court. The amount of child support is based on the income of both parents.  The court will use guidelines to determine the amount of child support to be paid.
